Mum: I phoned the doctor today and it was shut ‘cos there’s some sort of big emergency.

Me: Mum, it’s Saturday. The doctor is never open on a Saturday.

Mum: Yes, it is. And they said there was a big emergency and that was why they were shut.

Me: But they’re not open on  Saturday.

Mum: Well, I think they open for a few hours.

Me: Mum, you’re wrong.

Mum: I can assure you I’m right. I know what I heard. Phone them for yourself.

(I ring the surgery to hear the recorded message)

Hello, this is the M__ & F__ surgery. We are closed at the moment, but in the case of an emergency, please phone NHS24 on ……..

And she still doesn’t believe me.

    Oh, dear.

This has given me an early morning giggle. Very funny! In a serious kind of way, of course…
    Hope she’s well.

She’s fine, thanks. But today is Tesco day. In the snow. Sheesh!

I really appreciate your relationship with your Mum, I’m struggling to see humour in my Mum’s failing memory right now, but it truly helps if I can!
We also have a Tesco day these days…my most frustrating moment each week is the one where she watches me put in her credit card pin number at the til and she tuts then says ‘I really don’t need you, I would easily remember that number!’ One minute ago she couldn’t even remember she had a card!
Reading about your Mum really helps me!

Really glad my wee stories help. Mum’s eyesight is bad: she has a cataract in one and macular degeneration in the other and struggles to see what’s on the shelves and to put her pin number in. She remembers it though. In many ways her memory is still quite sharp. In others… those are what I post here 🙂

Oh Nettie – you make me laugh so much – that is exactly like talking to my OH, Badger (I’m 73 not 74 thank you very much) and NEVER WRONG.

Feels so good to know I’m not alone. xxxx

This takes me back to when my mum had enough memory left to have opinions. Now there isn’t much left. It’s best to see the funny side whenever you can.

Well, if you don’t laugh, you cry. And I’d rather keep smiling as long as I can.
      Thanks for popping by x

Yes, your mum brings laughter to us. In a cheery, nice way!
